Pipe Relining VS Pipe Replacement: The Decision

From blocked drains and leaking taps to clogged and cracked pipes, there are many symptoms that imply there is a problem within your pipes that requires a professional plumber’s intervention to decide what is the best type of repair for your damaged pipes.

At Trenchless Pipe Relining Solutions, we have been in the pipe relining industry for over 13 years, servicing Sydney’s northern suburbs as well as the greater Sydney region. In our years of experience as North Shore plumbers, we’ve seen the serious damage that can come as a result of not maintaining the pipes.

While there are two major options for repairing damaged pipes, we believe in the ‘no-dig’ approach, as we have never seen a problem that pipe relining was not able to fix. As for pipe replacement, it’s a more invasive approach that only the less skilled plumber would offer, as it’s a fairly new advancement that requires skill & technology to get it right.

How Does Pipe Relining Work?

While it’s an advanced technique, the concept is very basic: a piece of inflatable tubing is pushed or pulled through the pipe and then inflated to replace the original piece of piping. It’s then coated to become durable and strong, becoming able to repair pipe breaks, clogs and leaks in the least disruptive possible way.

It’s the preferred method as it has the clear advantage of ‘no-dig’ pipe repair, not involving excavation and digging of long trenches on a property, so your lawn, landscaping, driveways remain intact, as pipe relining typically requires minimal excavation work and just one access hole.

Pipe relining is generally more cost-effective, as the cost goes to the technology and materials used rather than the unnecessary labour costs.

No Compromises

When you opt in for quality pipe relining, you’re not choosing a temporary solution, as relining existing pipes could be more durable than installing a new pipe altogether, since repaired pipes through relining methods tend to be stronger than older PVC pipes, and can offer a lifespan of decades – in some cases, up to 50 years, and many pipe relining companies offer long years of guarantee on the relined pipes.
